It is tough being a woman – Toke Makinwa

Toke Makinwa

Celebrated on air personality and blogger, Toke Makinwa, reacts to stories about her marriage,
many fans who rejoiced with celebrated broadcaster, Toke Makinwa, when she got married to her lover of eight years, Maje Ayida, last year are likely to be troubled by the tales surrounding it now.
Tongues had been wagging for some time that the husband had been alledgedly cheating on her.
The story reminds followers of celebrity marriages of the troubles that several of such had witnessed in the past few years. For instance, the likes of Funke Akindele, Ini Edo and comedian Princess had got it so rough that their marriages did not survive for long.
Initially, Makinwa was mum on the topic. But on Tuesday, she took to Instagram obviously to address the issue. She referred to the development as a blessing in disguise, and noted that she had received several messages from people sympathising with her.
She wrote, “The amount of emails I have received from women across the world going through difficult situations is heartbreaking. Thank you all for sharing. In a world where the popular belief out there is that women hate one another, women can’t stand one another, etc., I have got emails/calls from women sharing their own personal pains, and that is courageous.
“I can’t reply everyone (even though I honestly wish I could.) It is funny how God uses even the most unbelievable things to bless you. I have been given a voice, a platform (I don’t even know how it all happened) but I woke up one day and I found God and with that came purpose. It’s never about you, as hard as it seems. Sometimes, you go through things not for you but for the people around you who need direction, a word of prayer or more.
“May God heal every broken heart out there. May His light give you the courage to begin to love yourself. It is tough being a woman, the pressure is real. You don’t have to be a victim. You can rise above it all. Do not let society tell you otherwise. Be bold, be strong. Trust God’s purpose for your life and keep shinning. And yes, to all the people asking, there is a Vlog this week!”
But there a appeared to be something like a relief on Tuesday evening when a Twitter account linked to Ayida indicated that the anti-matrimonial allegations against him are false.

As a married woman, I still get advances from men –Faith Morey

Faith Morey
Background
My name is Faith Morey and I am an international model. I am from Ikwerre in Rivers State. I grew up in a religious family. My grandmother taught us family and religious values. I have three siblings, my biological father is deceased and my mum is a retired nurse. I am presently rounding off my Bachelor’s degree programme in Human Resources at Lone Star College, Houston Texas, United States of America.
Modelling
ADVERTISEMENT
I started modelling in 2008, after the Rivers State MVP basketball competition. I won the competition and while I was being interviewed, they called for a five-minute break. As I watched television back stage, I saw Naomi Campbell on the runway. Right there, I decided that was what I was supposed to do. I wanted to be like the woman I saw on television, who was bold and confident.
In 2009, I entered for the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria pageant, but I never made it to the second batch. My life changed after Nigeria’s Next Super Model competition in 2009.
Love and Marriage
I am grateful for my modelling career because it led me to my husband. You have to love someone to marry them and stay married. The love and bond between couples keep their marriage. My husband is supportive of my career.
Motherhood
Being a mother has changed my life in a tremendous way; I wouldn’t imagine a life without my son. Being a mum taught me patience, unconditional love and how to be open to negotiation. I love every aspect of motherhood. Being a mother keeps me on my toes. You do not know what it is to be selfless until you have a child.
Competition
Competition among models in Nigeria and abroad is the same, but the only advantage is the good payment. The international industry is very developed and organised. In Texas, the perfect model is a white girl with blue eyes and there are only a few companies that hire black models. Black girls fight for a place in the international modelling industry.
Personality
I am outlandish. When people see me, they say I am pretty and perfect, and my close friends say I am a weird average girl. I could say I am shy when I walk into a room full of people. However, I am confident at the same time because I am not afraid to express myself. I am principled, old fashioned and family-oriented. I am a goal getter and very ambiguous.
Male distraction
When you are backstage, you barely have the time to check out male models; you would be busy trying to calm your nerves before you get on stage. I have a family to consider. I would not want to throw my family away for my guilty pleasures. Even as a married woman, I still get advances from men. It only reminds me that I am a beautiful, black and intelligent woman. I would check the mirror the day I stop having admirers.
Challenges
As a starter, I had to learn to be a lady. Nobody wanted to give a dress to a tomboy. My toned legs posed a challenge. Nigerians have their version of how a sexy leg should look, and a curved or toned leg wasn’t it. I used to wear trousers to castings so they could pick me for my walk and not my legs. I came to the US and I realized the sexiest legs were the curved legs. Now, when I walk on the street, women approach me to ask who my trainer is. Also, as a six-foot model wearing a size 11 shoe, it was difficult to get my size. I used to keep my legs behind my seat, so people would not see my toes sticking out of my shoes. It was quite embarrassing.
Hobbies
I love to go to the movies with my husband, son and friends; take a good run to clear my head or play basketball with my brothers. My family comes first. And most of the time I travel with my son when I have out-of-state jobs or international shows. I try to juggle between family, career and school. Also, I have interests in acting and image consulting.
Beauty tips
Everyone is different, what works for you might not work for another person. My son is almost four years old and I never visited a gym until last year because my brother persuaded me to do so for health reasons. Some people have good genes; others have to work out to stay fit. I try to eat healthy, I fail some times and I do not go hard on myself. Next day, I try again. I still struggle each day to maintain a healthy diet and workout routine.
Style
People mistake style for brand. My style is a reflection of how I feel. Often times, I combine outfits from different designers and when I step out, people scream and ask where I got the outfits from. I like shorts, shirts and a pair of heels. I love shoes and I splurge on them when I shop.

Boy 10, drowns in Bauchi river

A 10-year-old boy on Wednesday drowned after falling into a stream in Jugudu village in Giade Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Barely a week ago, the Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, stated in a statement that seven people had drowned in five different rivers across the state, warning the residents to be cautious of their movement around river banks and drainage in the state.
The 10-year-old victim, Bello Abdul, according to the PPRO, in a statement in Bauchi on Thursday, was rushed to the hospital but was certified dead by a medical doctor.
He said: “On the 19/8/2015 (Wednesday) at about 12:00hrs (12noon), one Bello Abdul, male, (10) of Tudun Maje in Giade LGA of Bauchi State, fell into a stream in Jugudu Village and got drowned.
“The scene was visited by police detectives attached to Giade Division and the victim was rushed to the General Hospital, Giade, for treatment but was certified dead by a medical doctor.
“The corpse was released to the relatives for burial after postmortem examination. No mark of violence or foul play suspected.”

The Police spokesman once again reiterated the Command’s call on parents to caution their children against going to river/streams in order to prevent drowning, which is becoming rampant in the state.

Boko Haram’s end is in sight, Buhari insists

President Muhammadu Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday reaffirmed his position that the end of the Boko Haram insurgency is in sight.
He said his conviction was based on the added vigour with which the war against the terrorist sect is now being prosecuted by Nigeria and her allies.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, in a statement quoted Buhari as speaking while granting audience to Mr. Mousa Mahamat, Chadian Minister of Foreign Affairs and  Special Envoy of President Idris Deby of Chad.
He further quoted the President as saying that with higher morale among troops in the frontline against Boko Haram and their improved logistics, equipment and training, a rapid end to the insurgency could be expected.

The President said however that Nigeria and Chad must be prepared to make more sacrifices to end the scourge of Boko Haram, since they were at the “very heart of the insurgency”.
“We will sustain our effort, and the  insurgents will be defeated soon,” the President vowed.
The Special Envoy of the Chadian President said that President Deby appreciated the leadership being shown by Buhari in the war against terrorism.
“We also appreciate the diligence shown in appointing a commander for the Multinational Joint Task Force, and President Deby believes that the fight will end in a few months.
“Our people rely on us to end the insurgency, because economic development is being hampered.  This fight has to come to an end. My coming here is to reaffirm our full commitment. Beyond the number of troops earlier announced, Chad is still ready to commit more soldiers.
“The enemy is weakened already. Let’s stand firm, and neutralise them,” he said.

MY WOMAN, MY EVERYTHING: See What My Husband Did To Me and My 2 Sisters (SEE PHOTOS +FULL GIST) Pls Kindly post this for me, i need your reader’s advise on how my husband slept with my two junior sisters that lived with us.

husbandsleep

Dear Naija News Update,

Pls Kindly post this for me, i need your reader’s advise on how my husband slept with my two junior sisters that lived with us.

I have been married for 10+ years and thought I was happily married till some weeks ago. From the fourth year into my marriage my mom advised us to take on 2 female relatives. One was 22 and the other 13 at that time. In 2010, we noticed that the older of the girls had become so close to my husband to the point that anyone could easily conclude they were intimate. She became rude to me but got closer to my husband and he never saw anything wrong with her attitude. He would take her to school (UNILAG) and pick her up regularly. He would gladly buy the exact items for her and myself whenever he traveled. Several times he gave her large sums without my consent or knowledge but thankfully it all came out through her mom.

He blurted out once that she had STD and I was quite embarrassed that he would know that about her if nothing was going on. In the end we decided she couldn’t go on living in my house and my mom came to take her away her even though my husband kicked against it furiously. The younger one stayed on and that is now my greatest undoing.

She grew up quickly and she is now 20 and in her second year in University. She recently sent her Dad (who lives in Lagos) a suicide message stating that she was going to kill herself if she is allowed to continue staying with us. Her dad has now called me to say he followed up with the suicide message and she confided in him that my husband dis-v!rg!ned her at 15 and had continued to sleep with her till she put up some resistance late last year. She said he is also with her roommate and claimed to have seen a message from the girl to my husband implicating him. She also said that she had caught my husband and the older girl that left in 2010 in suspicious positions before the girl was sent away.

I have confronted him with all these and he is not giving tangible reasons to disbelieve the girl. Truth is I know he did these things because of other things the girl told me that I have since confirmed one of which is that he brought a stray girl (18 yrs) into our home under the guise that she was a distant cousin’s daughter. It turned out he met her randomly and merely chatted her up.

Dear SPYS TEAM,

Pls Kindly post this for me, i need your reader’s advise on how my husband slept with my two junior sisters that lived with us.

I have been married for 10+ years and thought I was happily married till some weeks ago. From the fourth year into my marriage my mom advised us to take on 2 female relatives. My Pastors have intervened and told me all these are true but that “he is a man and will never openly admit it now”. They are asking me to let go for the sake of my children and the marriage. I am however upset that he will get off this easily and the innocent girl will not get justice. Should I cover his sins and appeal to the girl’s father who has indicated that he will do as I advise or should I insist that he is made to apologize to the girl? I keep thinking what if she is my own daughter!! I am at my wits end trying to figure out if I should act as a wife or a mother! Will a good wife cover her husband’s sins???

Haba 71yr old man slaughters wife with a machete in Akwa Ibom.PHOTOS

A 70 year old man has been arrested in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state after he killed his 60yr old wife with a machete. The man, Ita Daniel Okpo (pictured), from Mbiokporo village, attacked his wife, Alice Ita Daniel, with the machete while she was sleeping. The machete is now with the Police at the Force Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia.

Narrating the story to newsmen yesterday Tuesday, 16th June, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, Mike Okoli, said the deceased was sleeping when the septuagenarian husband attacked and hacked her.
The photos are horrific. Read the rest of the story and see the photos after the cut…

“This man, Ita Daniel Okpo, in a most wicked act, slaughtered his wife with a machete and we arrested him. When asked, he admitted to killing his wife but said the late wife, Alice, always quarreled with him and that she was the first to carry machete. Gentlemen, but our findings revealed that the woman was sleeping when she was hacked to death”,
When asked, the man admitted to killing his wife but said he took the action after finding out his late wife was sleeping with other men.
“I regret my act, but I was forced to kill her because it was too much on me. In fact, at a point, she openly told me she would rather kill me than to stop sleeping with these men. To match words with action, she had been fighting me several times. So, on that fateful day, while we fought, I killed her” he said
The ACP said the man will charged to court.

OMG ?? See What a pastor of a church Is Doing to Single Female Members

carpas

So someone posted this on Facebook, alleging that a pastor of a church somewhere in the Caribbean asked his single female members to follow him to the beach where he will pray for them to find husbands. When they got to the beach, the poster alleged that the pastor asked the ladies to undress and said he needed to kiss their butts to open them up to finding their men and the ladies agreed.
This is what the Facebook user is claiming…looks more to me like ‘okpos’ and their pimps doing a photo-shoot. See the uncensored photo after the cut…

I Didn’t Say I’m Too Old To Rule Nigeria – President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday spurned reports suggesting he regretted that his age would in one way of the other limit the extent to which he could perform in office as President.

The said reports in some national dailies has interpreted what Buhari told the Nigerian community at the country’s Consulate in Johannesburg, South Africa on Monday to mean the President said he would have loved being a President when he was at a younger age.
But clarifying on what he actually meant when he made reference to his age, Buhari who said nothing could be farther from the truth than the said reports, stated that on the contrary “old wines are tasty”.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President noted that the Buhari Nigerians have in him today “is a man, like old wine, that has got tastier.
“At 72, yes, he can’t be called a youth, but he has in quantum the wisdom, the patience, temperance and forbearance that age brings”, Adesina added.
Recalling that the President himself had rightly told the Nigerian community that he was speaking extempore because he wanted to “speak from the heart”, Adesina said the Buhari was only urging them “to be good ambassadors of Nigeria, a country he went to the warfront to keep together”.
In a statement on Wednesday, Adesina said, “Still extolling the virtues of our country, Nigeria, the President, who had served as a military governor of then North-Eastern State at 33 years old, declared:
“The above comments have been reported by some newspapers to mean that the President was saying he was too old to cope with the demands of his office. Far from it”.
He added that the president has brought all these virtues of wisdom, patience, temperance and forbearance to the presidency to make a difference in the country’s national life.
Still recalling what Buhari sad, the presidential spokesman said, “The President assured the Nigerian community in South Africa that his Administration will make a positive impact on the country. And that he would do.”

Meet the African king with 100 wives...

Abumbi II, the 11th fon, or king, of Bafut, Cameroon, has close to 100 wives. They weren't all his to start with. According to local tradition, when a fon dies, his successor inherits all his wives and then marries his own queens. He inherited 72 of the women from his late father. He has also taken on over 500 children from all of his wives.
"The queens have a great role to play in the fondom," notes Prince Nickson, also of Bafut, noting that it is up to these women behind the man to shape him in his kingly role.

"Behind every successful man must be a very successful, staunch woman," says Abumbi's third wife, Queen Constance.
"Our tradition has it that when you are king, the elderly wives remain to hand down the tradition to the younger wives, and also to teach the king the tradition because the king had been a prince, not a king."
Despite the fact that polygamy is legal in Cameroon, the data shows that there are far fewer polygamous marriages across the African continent. The practice is being challenged by changing values, the spread of the Christian faith, the growing appeal of the western way of life but also the rising costs of having large families. It is against this backdrop that Cameroon's traditional rulers must walk the fine line between two often conflicting cultures.

"During colonialism other values came in, of governance, different from the traditional values we had and therefore there is this constant conflict between the traditional values and modern western values," admits Fon Abumbi II, who has ruled Bafut, the largest fondom in the region, for 47 years.

Some of the king's wives
"My role is to blend them, to find the way forward so my subjects can enjoy the fruits of development and modernity without destroying their culture. Without a culture, you are not a human being, you are an animal. And therefore the chieftaincy institution is the guarantor of our culture."
"I understand that we might be quick to judge the lifestyle of the kings, but just like in the United Kingdom, African kingdoms and kings are bound to a rich culture and history. (Practices) like inheritance of all your father's wives is nothing but a moral obligation."
On meeting the queens of Fon Ndofua Zofia II of Babungo -- one of Cameroon's youngest traditional rulers -- Methu CNN correspondent said:
"All his young wives, forced on him by tradition, spoke fluent English in a French-speaking region and were great marketers."

His palace
It is this seeming contradiction that makes life in the fondom fascinating and confusing. Are they stuck in the past or keeping pace with the present? Fon Zofoa III doesn't think you have to choose. He may have "inherited" 72 wives and more than 500 children after his father's death, but he considers himself a very modern king.

"To run a kingdom nowadays in this era, you must be educated because things are moving very fast. Like they used to say, education is light, ignorance is darkness."

Pictures Of A Galliant Soldier Killed By Boko Haram

Back at the Imo State University, as undergraduates, I respected him because he was gentle, mature and always smiling stylishly. Astute! Until one particular day while we were in the studio trying to do a cartography assignment, Chinedu Omeji told me Amos Erekose was a soldier boy. I didn't believe it until I saw his teeth sparkle.

Amos joined the battle against Boko Haram, once in a while we will chat about the war and tactics. December 2014, he was made a section commander. Januray 15, 2015 was his birthday. I prayed for him and my other friend Alvan Divine Amushie who were at the war front in Sambisa.

I was shocked this morning to hear that Amos died trying to bring peace in Northeast of Nigeria.

Keep smiling bro. It's sad to lose young brilliant men like you. You promised to fight to the end! Rest in peace Soldier.

AN HONEST man here lies at rest
As e'er God with his image blest;
The friend of man, the friend of truth,
The friend of age, and guide of youth:
Few hearts like his, with virtue warm'd,
Few heads with knowledge so informed:
If there's another world, he lives in bliss;
If there is none, he made the best of this
